"Happy Wedding Day to you.
Happy Wedding Day to you.
Happy, Happy, Happy Wedding Day, Brad and Jill.
Happy Wedding Day to you."
The best part was the guys were all wearing sunglasses, so they looked pretty cool. It was a sweet, precious memory. And this was long before anyone was preparing choreographed surprise dances for the newlyweds at a reception or the bridal party preparing something for the wedding guests.
Nowadays people are planning full on productions. I've seen a mother/son dance to different famous dance songs; bridesmaids dancing to All The Single Ladies; husbands singing and dancing for their wives; even Maroon 5 showing up at several wedding receptions to perform Sugar. Raps, elaborate first dances; it's becoming more and more commonplace to have some kind of "entertainment" at the reception. Our Happy Wedding Day was tame, unrehearsed and small scale compared to what people do today.
So the question is what do you do? Is it necessary? No. Is it fun? Heck, yeah. We may need to put our thinking caps on - dance shoes, too - and see what we can come up with. But I wouldn't count out your Daddy, Uncle Scott and Uncle Todd singing Happy Wedding Day to you, though.
Discussion: Have you thought it you plan on having some kind of entertainment at your reception (dance, song or video)? Have you ever seen something like this at a wedding or reception?
Prayer: Lord, it will sure be fun to celebrate these blessed unions after the wedding. If there is something we can do to provide a little entertainment, I pray you give us some clever ideas. In Jesus name, Amen.
